EAZY ET

September 1, 2020

The very first time I watched the film E.T. I instantly fell in love with the peculiar character. Not only did I enjoy the film, but I enjoyed the character design and aesthetics of the extra-terrestrial. I’m not sure if it was because how odd-looking he was, or because he was so different than any of the other portrayals of aliens I had encountered before. Since then, I have taken a liking to making mash-ups of my favorite pop culture icons, and had never done so with E.T., until this point.

So I began thinking of humorous and fun ideas for a piece. After a brief NWA kick, it clicked in my head. Eazy E.T. Sometimes, it’s just about timing. So I got to work. For this piece, I jotted down on pencil, after the initial line drawing, I went over it in pen, scanned it, and threw some digital color and lighting to it. I also added some texture, and finished it with some digital elements, for a nice final touch. To this day, it still makes me chuckle, I have even had intentions of doing a series, but who knows what will come next.

COWHERD

July 11, 2020

Now here was a fun one to work on. Cowherd isn’t a character of mine, but that of fellow artist Moldazor. That guy makes some really fun stuff. One day, I was scrolling through the mess that is social media, and I saw that he was having a “draw this in your style” contest thing. Naturally, I was inclined to throw my hat in the ring, because I love that kinda shit. Something about working with other people’s ideas, and adding your twist to it, that I really enjoy.

He had quite a few characters to choose from, but one in particular stood out to me. Cowherd seemed like one I could really get behind. I figured I could make him pretty gnarly and grotesque. Another mixed media piece here, hand-drawn, digital paint, etc. It has turned into my go-to style the last few years, and I only continue to find ways of improving the process.

DILOPHOSAURUS PADDOCK

August 10, 2018

Another childhood favorite of mine, Jurassic Park. I’ve been drawing dinosaurs for most of my life, and I never get tired of them. Jurassic Park really fueled my imagination. As a kid, I would draw endless scenarios and create my own stories. Now that my skills are a little sharper, and I have more tools at my disposal, I can get a bit more carried away.

For this piece, I wanted to re-create a scene from the film, that is brief, but always stayed in my mind. The scene is the part where Newman gets killed by the Dilophosaurus (Dilophosauri?). Funny part is these dinosaurs were actually a bit larger than they are portrayed in the film, and they also didn’t have the frill and spit venom, but artistic liberty at it’s finest, I suppose haha.
